How much does it cost?
If you will be using your DHL Germany contract, nothing will change for you: you will continue to use your own rates and be billed by DHL directly.
If you will be using refurbed DHL Express rates, please consult rates here . Refurbed pays the carrier directly, and the shipping cost is invoiced back to the seller.
The cost of label creation is always covered by refurbed.
Do these rates include VAT? Will VAT be added to the shipping invoices?
DHL Express shipping rates are always shown excluding VAT.
For the shipping invoice, the VAT treatment depends on the seller’s country:
Sellers based in Austria: 20% Austrian VAT will be added to the shipping invoice.
Sellers based in other EU countries: no VAT is added. The reverse charge mechanism applies, meaning VAT is accounted for in your local VAT return.
Are these rates fixed or can they change?
Rates may be subject to change due to fuel surcharges or contractual updates. We will inform sellers proactively in case of changes.
Are returns covered by insurance?
With our automated DHL Express return label (for returns initiated within 35 days), Refurbed covers any loss or damage up to €500 per order. DHL Express has the lowest rate of lost & damaged parcels among all carriers.
Can I add additional insurance for return shipments?
At the moment, it is not possible to add optional additional insurance to return labels created through refurbed due to a technical limitation.
However:
- Returns shipped via refurbed’s carrier agreement are covered up to €500 per order
- If a claim is accepted by the carrier, the seller receives reimbursement up to this amount
- All return shipments are tracked end-to-end with mandatory signature on delivery
- Refurbed handles the claims process directly with DHL Express
If additional insurance above €500 is a hard requirement for your business, please contact shipping@refurbed.com so we can assess your use case and consider prioritizing this feature.
Am I billed for every label I create, or only the ones that are actually used?
You are only billed for labels that are actually used (shipped), not just created.
How is invoicing done, and what do the reports look like?
Shipping costs are invoiced monthly. Any claim refunds are automatically deducted from that month’s invoice. A detailed report is sent together with the invoice. (Below the example invoice and attached excel report for reference.)

How does DHL Express calculate volumetric weight?
DHL charges the higher of the actual weight or the volumetric (dimensional) weight.
Formula:
Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 5000 = Volumetric Weight (kg)Example:
40 × 30 × 20 cm → 24 000 ÷ 5000 = 4.8 kg
