This page covers everything you need to know about the multiple return addresses feature in the Seller Interface.
What is this feature?
The multiple return addresses feature allows sellers to route their returns to different addresses, directly from the Shipping Return Contracts page in the Seller Interface.
How does it work?
Accessing the feature
This feature lives in two sub-tabs inside the Shipping Profiles tab:
-
Return addressestab, where return addresses must be created and managed. -
Return shipping contractstab, where the contract coverage and the return route logic per eligible country is configured.
What happens when you change a return route?
- All return labels created via that contract, for the affected customer country, will be shipped to the newly assigned address going forward.
- Labels already issued before the change are not affected.
Using the feature
-
Creating the addresses
Before configuring any routing logic, you must first create the addresses you want to route returns to. This is done in the
Return addressestab.- By default, every account will already have one address created (the single address previously configured).
- This becomes the main address for all routes logic unless explicitly changed.
- You can create as many additional addresses as needed.
- By default, every account will already have one address created (the single address previously configured).
- At least one address must always exist, ****deleting all addresses is not possible. When only one address is in the table, the delete option will return an error.
- Addresses currently in use in a routing rule can’t be deleted. You can see in the table which routing rules are using each address.
- The address must first be reassigned or the route updated before deletion is possible.
-
Defining the route logic
In the
Return shipping contractstab, you can assign a return address to each eligible customer country within a contract.- For each eligible country, you can select which return address applies using the "Return route address” column.
- The empty/default state for every country is always the current single ****address.
- You can’t delete a route, only edit the address assigned to it.
- To edit, you can click the edit button and select from the list of addresses created in the Return addresses tab.
- On saving, the system validates whether the selected address is compatible with the contract route.
- If it is not supported, an error is shown and the previous address is kept.
Limitations
Change the eligible customer countries
Contract data and eligible countries remain read-only, only refurbed admins can add or modify countries and contract configuration. Please reach out to us, if this is the case.
Routing to an address not supported in that contract
Routing to an address not supported in the contract is currently not possible. Please reach out to us, if this is the case.
Other routing criteria
Currently the only routing logic available is by customer country. The next planned iteration is routing by item category, which is already prepared in the data model but not yet exposed in the interface.
Safe-guards
- It is not possible to delete the last remaining return address.
- Addresses currently in use in a routing rule can’t be deleted until they are reassigned.
- If an address is edited and conflicts with a supported route in the contract, the change is blocked and an error message is shown.
- The customer country used as the routing condition can’t be edited by sellers, this is managed by refurbed admins at the contract level.
Quick FAQ
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can I add as many return addresses as I want? | Yes, there is no limit on how many return addresses a seller can create. |
| What happens to my existing return address when this feature launches? | It becomes your single address automatically. Nothing changes in your current setup, you only need to act if you want to add routing rules. |
| Can I delete my single address? | Not if it's the only address or if it's currently assigned to an active routing rule. You would need to create and assign a different address to any active routes first. |
| What happens if I don't configure any routing rules? | All returns will go to your single address, which is the same behaviour as before this feature existed. |
| Can I route by product category instead of country? | Not yet. Routing by item category, as well as different logics, is planned for future iterations. |
| Does this affect labels already issued? | No. Changing a routing rule only affects labels created after the change is saved. |
| What if the address I select isn't compatible with the shipping contract? | You'll see an error message and the previous address will be kept. Contact refurbed support if you're unsure which addresses are supported for a given route. |
| Can I change which countries are covered by my contract? | No. Countries are managed by refurbed admins. You can only assign return addresses to the countries already listed in your contract. If this is something you need, please reach out to our support. |
| What if I need to address a different address that is not supported in the contract? | That is currently not possible as it might break some contractual settings. If this is something you need, please reach out to our support. |
