What is a reserve?
A reserve is a portion of your payouts that refurbed temporarily withholds to cover expected refunds and warranty obligations linked to past sales. It’s not a fee and it still belongs to you—it's held to ensure customer obligations can be paid on time. Any remaining balance beyond the reserve will be paid out as usual, i.e., daily / weekly / monthly in line with your payout schedule.
Why is refurbed changing the reserve framework now?
As the marketplace scales, we want reserves to be:
- More risk-sensitive (aligned to actual exposure and risk signals)
- More consistent across sellers and countries
- More resilient to situations where risk changes faster than credit ratings or public information updates
This helps protect refurbed customers, platform operation ability and ensures payouts remain stable and predictable long-term.
When will the reserve be implemented?
Refurbed will be gradually increasing on a weekly basis from 27 April, 2026 to 31 October, 2026. Starting from 1 November, 2026, reserve will be updated on daily basis.
Will this affect my payout schedule?
Your payout schedule (e.g., daily/weekly/monthly) is not impacted by this change. However, because the reserve held may increase during the ramp, the payout amount you receive in a given cycle may be lower while the reserve is building up.
How is my reserve amount calculated?
You payout reserve is calculated based on a combination of factors, primarily:
- Your 12-month selling history
- Your company credit rating as determined by Credit Reform
- Your refund rate of recent 90 days
- Your defect rate of recent 12 months
- Seller history on refurbed (tenure and scale)
- Verified risk events and performance issues
The reserve amount will be proportionally allocated across your accounts in Paypal and Stripe.
Can my reserve go down in the future?
Yes. If your exposure decreases and/or your risk signals improve, your required reserve can be reduced in a future review. The reserve is not meant to only increase over time—it should reflect your current profile.
What can I do to reduce my reserve requirement over time?
Actions that typically reduce exposure and risk include:
- Reducing refund rate (accurate listings, condition grading, fewer wrong/defective items)
- Reducing warranty cases (quality checks, refurbishment standards, packaging)
- Improving delivery performance (dispatch times, carrier performance, tracking quality)
- Improving customer service response time and resolution quality
- Keeping legal and company information current (especially VAT validity)
- Responding quickly to documentation requests during reviews
Where can I check my reserve?
You can view the reserve amount in your seller ****dashboard. We are working to improve transparency so sellers can also understand the components (exposure, reserve, and key drivers) more clearly.
What if I already have a reserve in place?
If you currently have an existing reserve, we will only apply the incremental amount, deducting any overlap from the new reserve requirement.
